Rachel Thoerig, Ph.D.

Rachel Thoerig, Ph.D. is a Systematic Review Analyst at the Texas A&M Agriculture, Food, & Nutrition Evidence Center. She received her BS in Biology from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Ph.D. in Nutritional Science from Texas A&M University. 

Before taking time off to raise her kids, she worked at the USDA’s Human Nutrition Research Center. She conducted quality control assessments for USDA’s Food Patterns Equivalents Databases (FPED), which are used by policymakers and researchers to assess food consumption of Americans. She studied the foods that are consumed in the American diet and how their ingredients change over the years. Before her work at the USDA, she helped plan and manage a national program evaluation assessing the impact of a major WIC food package overhaul. She enjoys reading, cosplay, and spending time with family.
