Head of Global Initiatives at the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety at the World Health Organization (WHO)

Juan Pablo Peña-Rosas serves as Head of Global Initiatives (Cross-Cutting) in the Office of the Director in the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, where he works on evidence-informed global standards and supports their implementation. He also leads normative work on the integrated management of children and adolescents with obesity. He is an academic expert in evidence synthesis on health and nutrition issues.

Peña-Rosas is an Adjunct Professor in the Rollins School of Global Health at Emory University in Atlanta and Adjunct Professor in the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University in Ithaca. Peña-Rosas is a founding member of Cochrane Nutrition, a global nonprofit organization recognized for producing trusted synthesized evidence. He previously served as a specialist at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta and as Manager of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Kellogg Company in Mexico.

Peña-Rosas holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Human Nutrition from Cornell University, an M.Sc. in Public Health Nutrition from the University of Puerto Rico, and a Medical Degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela.
