Rachel Condie Thoerig, PhD
Assistant Research Scientist
Rachel Condie Thoerig, PhD, is an assistant research scientist at the Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Evidence Center, where she supports the evidence synthesis process by critically assessing data, particularly for risk of bias and certainty of evidence. She has expertise in U.S. nutrition assistance programs, composition of products in the U.S. food supply, and early childhood nutrition.
Prior to her role at the Evidence Center, Thoerig supported the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Human Nutrition Research Center as a contractor, conducting quality control assessments for USDA’s Food Patterns Equivalents Databases (FPED), which are used by policymakers and researchers to assess U.S. food consumption. Thoerig’s experience includes studying how the U.S. food supply and product ingredients changed over time. Her previous experience also includes assisting with the planning and implementation of a national program evaluation assessing the impact of major changes to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) food packages.
Thoerig earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nutrition from Texas A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at El Paso.
