Arin Balalian, DrPH, MD, MPH
Research Scientist
Arin Balalian, DrPH, MD, MPH, is a research scientist at the Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Evidence Center, where he leads evidence synthesis projects by designing analytical methods, operationalizing risk of bias assessment tools, leading manuscript development, and advancing process improvements. An epidemiologist and systematic review specialist with more than a decade of research experience, Balalian has expertise in implementing advanced epidemiological methods, conducting observational research studies, meticulously assessing the quality of existing research, and translating complex data into actionable insights for decision-makers, including government agencies, in the areas of environmental chemicals and nutrition food safety and public health intervention evaluation.
Prior to his role at the Evidence Center, Balalian was the evaluation lead at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for an electronic health records-based early intervention referral program. He has published work on environmental exposures like endocrine-disrupting chemicals and air pollutants, as well as lifestyle factors such as opioid use, contributing to our understanding of critical public health issues.
Balalian earned a Doctor of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University, a Doctor of Medicine in General Medicine from Yerevan State Medical University, and a Master of Public Health from the American University of Armenia.
